ELLES SONT PASSEES PAR ICI - HERE NOR THERE

2005 Artevisa Project, Loguivy de la Mer, Brittany, France

This group exhibition with Debby Akam, Jenny Dunseath, Aude Herail, Johanna Love, Karine Pradier and Barbara Rauch brought together a group of different artistic practices; drawing, installation, video, sound, light, sculpture and photography, with works installed around the town of Loguivy de la Mer in Brittany, France, in the Pays de Paimpol.

This was an exhibition that took place in the Town Hall of the Commune de Ploubazlanec, with the support of local officials keen to increase an engagment of contemporary art within the community.    It involved the pharmacy, the local café, the post office, the harbour and the fish factory.  It mediated the possible dilemmas of women’s words and worlds in a traditionally masculin environment. This made for an exciting location in which new contemporary art, that was site-specifically commissioned was placed around the town, much of it (video and sound) working both during the day and night, much like the fishermen and women of the village.

For this work we invited Jane Rendell, writer, art critic and architectural historian/theorist/designer and Michael Petry multi-media artist, author, director of MOCA, and co-founder of the Museum of Installation to respond to the exhibition themes with texts for the catalogue.
